But what makes this infamous scale so hard to harmonize? Well, quite a lot, actually. It contains a lot of tricks and traps to snare an unwary theorist, but if you treat it just right it could, in the words of its inventor Adolfo Crescentini, "prove effective". Sound fun? Verdi sure thought so.
